Abingdon, Va., November 11, 2025 — The Wellspring Foundation of Southwest Virginia is thrilled to announce the grand opening of its permanent office in the Stone Mill Business and Technology Park, in Abingdon, VA.
Over the past three and a half years, Wellspring Foundation has grown, expanding staff and founding its wholly‑owned subsidiary, Appalachian Highlands Housing Partners (AHHP). Created in November 2024, AHHP focuses on innovative solutions addressing workforce housing needs. For more information about AHHP, visit www.ahhpva.org.
Equally notable is Wellspring Foundation’s philanthropic impact: to date the Foundation has awarded 124 grants totaling over $58 million, supporting nonprofit community and governmental organizations across Russell, Smyth, Grayson, and Washington counties. These grants have enabled projects focused on health, education, workforce and economic development, children and families, and now housing through AHHP.
Wellspring Foundation Board Chair, Marvin Gilliam, said, “The Foundation has experienced significant growth since its creation nearly four years ago. We are grateful to the Virginia Highlands Small Business Incubator for their support in serving as the first home for the Wellspring Foundation. We look forward to continuing our collaborative work with local organizations to promote a healthy, thriving region from our new location.”
Added Executive Director Sean McMurray, “The shared business space at the Small Business Incubator allowed us to build a solid footing. Now, with the formation of AHHP and our expanding capacity, this new building symbolizes a deepened commitment and readiness to scale our mission-driven work.”
The new office will function as Wellspring Foundation’s central hub for grant administration, strategic partnerships and housing-related initiatives through AHHP. This move is expected to strengthen delivery of services across the Foundation’s four‑county service area.
