Welcome and greetings!
At the Wellspring Foundation of Southwest Virginia, we are proud to serve as a philanthropic partner and key driver of healthcare resources for Washington County, Virginia, and the neighboring communities of Grayson, Russell, and Smyth counties.
The Foundation was created in late 2021 following the sale of Johnston Memorial Healthcare Foundation’s minority ownership stake in Johnston Memorial Hospital (JMH). That sale established Wellspring as a local, independent healthcare advocate with resources that can serve our families and neighbors for generations to come.
Like you, we are proud to call Southwest Virginia home, which also means we are keenly aware of the challenges rural areas like ours face. Improving the overall health of our region is a complex goal that requires collaboration among those who live, work, and serve these counties. The Foundation is governed by a local board of directors with expertise in community health, administration, entrepreneurship, philanthropy, education and more. We are grateful to have their collective experience at hand.
While health and wellness are our focus, we are also interested in supporting educational and economic initiatives to see the counties we serve continue to grow. Our future work will invest in the increased recruitment and retention of healthcare professionals, as well as research, education, and potential treatment of the wellness challenges we collectively face.
We will also work in the coming months and years to foster relationships with other organizations whose goals align with our mission, vision, and values to work together towards a common purpose of positively impacting the overall health of our communities.
We are a new organization that intends to be around for a very long time. It is our hope that the Foundation and the partnerships we create will help provide the physical and economic nourishment needed to sustain a healthy, thriving Southwest Virginia for centuries to come.
