Abingdon, VA, August 13, 2026 — The Wellspring Foundation of Southwest Virginia is pleased to announce its most recent investment in the region, awarding more than $16 million to nearly 50 nonprofit and government organizations through its latest HOPE and IMPACT grant cycles. With this round of funding, the Foundation’s total commitment now exceeds $70 million, reflecting a powerful and growing investment in a stronger, healthier and more resilient Southwest Virginia.
The Wellspring Foundation’s grantmaking reflects its ongoing commitment to investing in programs and projects that address systemic issues across its service area of Washington, Grayson, Russell and Smyth counties. The projects funded this year are designed to strengthen community health, expand access to opportunity and support sustainable growth throughout Southwest Virginia.
“As the Wellspring Foundation wraps up its fifth year of grantmaking, we are filled with gratitude and optimism as we see the meaningful work local nonprofit organizations are doing to serve our communities and strengthen Southwest Virginia,” said Dr. JoAnn Price, chair of the Wellspring Foundation Board of Directors. “It is exciting to see organizations working more closely together, building partnerships and aligning their efforts in ways that are helping propel the region forward. The 2026 HOPE and IMPACT grants supported a broad range of initiatives focused across all areas of interest to the Foundation, including public health, child and family wellbeing, workforce training, educational access and community economic development. From helping families access quality healthcare to preparing individuals for careers in high-demand local industries, each funded project plays a role in shaping a stronger future for Southwest Virginia.

Organizations interested in applying for funding in 2027 should begin preparing now. Applicants are strongly encouraged to review the updated guidelines and eligibility requirements posted on the Foundation’s website.
Both HOPE & IMPACT grants are open to nonprofit organizations and government entities serving Washington, Grayson, Russell and Smyth counties in Virginia, with funding priorities aligned with the Foundation’s core focus areas: health, children and families, workforce development, education and economic development.

- The HOPE Grant application cycle will open again October 1, 2026, and close October 31, 2026, at 4:30 p.m.
- The IMPACT Grant application cycle will open February 1, 2027, and close on March 12, 2027, at 4:30 p.m.
